Squats are great. Squats are fun. Squats rock.
Okay now that’s out of the way… squat’s are hard. They are not easy to master. And I don’t know about you, but my trainers are ALWAYS on my case about my form (yes trainers have trainers).
Years ago, a trainer told me it takes 3 years to master the squat. I’ve been at it for longer, and I still haven’t gotten it perfect. In all honesty, I don’t know if I ever will, because of an old injury that limits my mobility, but I keep on trying.
So here are the basics…
Feet approximately shoulder width apart
Toes forward or pointing slightly outward
Don’t let your shoulders round
Keep your back in a neutral position
Don’t let your butt wink (a little
Drop your butt back and down
Keep your eyes up
Push your knees out over your toes, but don’t let them go in front of your toes
Keep your heels on the floor
OMG that is a lot to remember for a silly little squat!
The reason I am sharing this is to let you know that squats are very technical.
If your trainer is on your case about your squat form, it’s not because we are trying to drive you crazy. We aren’t trying to be a pain. We are trying to prevent pain, especially if you are squatting with weight.
So please don’t get discouraged and go DROP IT LIKE A SQUAT!!
